Overview

The highway improvement projects known as “Route 29 Solutions” represent a significant investment in mobility and to reducing congestion on the Route 29 corridor in the Charlottesville / Albemarle County region.

The selection of projects was the result of a process that included input from the Route 29 Solutions Advisory Panel, local governments, business and environmental groups from communities along the Route 29 corridor.

The Route 29 Solutions package of eight improvement projects was approved for funding by the Commonwealth Transportation Board on June 18, 2014.

These projects will increase capacity and efficiency along Route 29 and provide alternate routes on parallel roads to help reduce traffic on Route 29.

Six projects were funded through construction. Two additional projects will begin preliminary engineering once construction is complete in the Fall of 2017.

Three of the projects are being built using the design-build project delivery process.

The Virginia Department of Transportation selected Lane-Corman Joint Venture, a partnership between Lane Construction Corp. and Corman Construction, with design services provided by a team led by RK&K Engineers.
